Where data is stored

The operator of the server at this website's address stores and processes your Companion account and connected vehicle data. In the Apple app, the selected server URL determines which operator receives your details. Its configured Appwrite instance also receives account and stored vehicle data. Use only a server you trust.

What is stored

Appwrite stores your account email, password hash and sessions. Private Appwrite tables store encrypted BYD credentials, hashed widget keys, vehicle identifiers and cached telemetry. Battery and range history is retained for up to 30 days. The Companion server's encryption key is separate from Appwrite. Its operator can decrypt BYD credentials; encryption does not hide them from that operator.

Why

Companion uses your BYD login to retrieve your vehicle list and telemetry. It does not request a remote-control PIN, send driving commands or poll GPS location. Telemetry includes the readings available from BYD, which may include battery, range, charging, temperature, doors, windows and tyre information. Availability varies by vehicle.

Devices and widgets

The Apple app stores access tokens in Keychain. Its extensions use a shared Keychain group. Vehicle snapshots and the selected server are shared with widgets. A read-only token is transferred to your paired Apple Watch using Apple's Watch Connectivity framework. Widget refresh timing is controlled by Apple.

Cookies and third parties

The website uses one necessary sign-in cookie. There are no analytics, advertisements or third-party website resources. The server communicates with BYD through an unofficial community client. BYD's own services and terms also apply. Server and hosting operators may retain operational access logs.

Your controls

Disconnect BYD to remove its saved credentials, vehicles and history. Revoke API keys at any time. Download your vehicle data or delete your Companion account from Account & API on the web, or Settings in the iPhone app. Account deletion removes active server records, not your separate BYD account. Operator backups may retain data according to the operator's retention policy.
